On 26th August a torrent of mud and water swept through Rasuwa, Nuwakot and the surrounding areas in Nepal. Many have perished in this tragic event and the numbers of dead and missing are rising each day.
Our colleagues from TLM Nepal made the journey North to provide essential supplies to those involved in rescue and relief operations. Please continue to pray for all those involved, that more people could be found and saved and that help would come quickly to those who have lost so much and are now vulnerable. Among those most vulnerable are people affected by leprosy, persons with disabilities, women and children, older people and families already facing poverty and hardship.
While the Nepal Government leads the overall emergency response, the Leprosy Mission team in Nepal is working alongside the Social Welfare Department to provide targeted assistance to those most vulnerable.
This includes:
Emergency shelter — tarpaulins, blankets, sleeping bags and mats
Household essentials — kitchen sets, cooking gas, water containers
Hygiene and dignity kits — including essential items for women and girls
Solar lighting — for households without power
Food and nutrition — ready-to-eat meals, rice, lentils, and high-energy biscuits
Health supplies — essential medicines and first aid
